On Friday, November 30th, two former world champions will step inside the boxing ring to determine which one is Australia’s boxing king. This “Down Under” grudge match pits Jeff “The Hornet” Horn against Anthony “The Man” Mundine in the “River City Rumble.”

Here are the top US betting sites we recommend for betting on the River City Rumble:

Here are the top Non-US betting sites we recommend for betting on the River City Rumble:

Both fighters have agreed to a match that will be contested at a catchweight of 156.5 pounds. Technically, there are two middleweight titles on the line as well: the WBO Oriental and the WBA Oceania. In total, there are 8 boxing fights on the card with a few solid prospects headlining the undercard.

The River City Rumble will be live from Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. This event can be seen on PPV and streaming on ESPN+.

Horn vs Mundine Betting Odds

Since the announcement of this fight, Horn opened as a huge betting favorite with most online betting sites. Currently, Horn is listed as a -538 favorite and Mundine is a +433 underdog according to BetOnline. Additionally, BetOnline has set the following Over/Under:

  • Over 9.5 rounds (-140)
  • Under 9.5 rounds (+120)

Before we diver deeper into the betting analysis, let’s take a look at the two combatants.

A Quick Look at Both Fighters

At age 30, Jeff Horn (18-1-1) is the younger of the two boxers, but every bit as dangerous as his counterpart Anthony Mundine (48-8) who’s 43. “The Hornet” kicked down the door to international stardom in 2017, after defeating Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium to win the WBO welterweight title. Horn would follow up that success with an 11th round TKO over Gary Corcoran in late 2017.

At 18-0-1, Horn was flying up the pound for pound best rankings and looking like a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, he ran into one of the best in Terence Crawford and suffered a TKO loss this past June. “The Hornet” is looking to rebound from that fight and reestablish himself as a contender in the welterweight division. To do that, he will have to defeat a boxer that Jeff has admired for many years.

Don’t let Mundine’s age fool you. He’s still very capable of knocking out Horn in this fight as he does have 28 KO victories in his career. The former Australian rugby player has had a successful career since turning pro in 2000. Mundine has fought throughout several weight classes and never shied away from a battle. “The Man” is a 2-time former WBA super middleweight champion and has gone toe-to-toe against some of the sport’s elite like Shane Mosley, who he defeated in 2013. Mundine won his last fight in January via 2nd round KO.

Who Will Win the Fight?

Mundine is the better boxer of the two. And, if he was 5 years younger, I believe he would easily dispatch of Horn. Jeff will look to come out and smother Mundine with his aggressive, unorthodox style. However, we know that Mundine will be prepared for this. The question is whether or not Mundine still has the legs to go deep into the latter rounds. We know Mundine has the heart and the chin to hang in there and exchange shots, but father time catches up to us all.

Mundine Fight Odds Today

Mundine has talked the talk, which we’ve come to enjoy and expect. Horn has been a bit more passive and respectful of his opponent. But, that doesn’t mean he won’t go out there and try to take Mundine’s head off once the bell rings.

Despite what the boxing betting sites listed the odds at, I believe it will be closer than expected. With that in mind, Mundine at +433 is worth a flyer for those of you risk takers out there. In front of 50,000 rabid Australian fight fans, Mundine has the heart and soul to turn back the hands of time and pull off the upset. With a puncher’s chance, taking a flyer on Mundine is a reasonable option for those of you that bet on boxing.

However, despite the sentimental side of me wanting to see Mundine ride off into the sunset with a win in this fight, you have to go with the younger, more aggressive fighter in Horn. Unfortunately, his moneyline of -538 offers no value and the small risk of him losing is not worth a wager.

Winner: Jeff Horn

Will the Fight Go the Distance?

As mentioned above, the Over/Under is set at 9.5 rounds. With the moneylines being less than desirable to wager on, we turn our attention to the O/U. Looking at Horn’s 18-1-1 record, he’s had 6 wins come via decision and 12 come via KO. Horn also has 1 draw on his resume.

Mundine Fight Odds 2019

In his 6 decision victories, one of them came via a corner stoppage. Horn is very capable of winning the fight within the distance, but he’s also content winning on points. In a presser, Horn made the following comments about a points victory:

“It’s enough for the victory, that’s for sure. If I was to go for the points victory, that’s enough for the win.”

As you can see, Horn already has it in his mind that going the distance is a possibility. Mundine also shared his thoughts on the fight going into the latter rounds:

“There’s extraordinary athletes. I’m in the extraordinary bracket. I’m still fit, still super fit. He’ll be huffing and puffing by the end of the fight.”

With both fighters publicly conscious of the possibility that this fight can go the distance, and based on Mundine’s history, there’s a great chance that it does. 20 of Mundine’s 48 wins have come via decision. Furthermore, 5 of his 8 losses have come via decision. That means 25 of his 56 total fights have gone to the scorecards.

But, here’s the key to all of this, the O/U is set at 9.5 of 12 rounds. That means the fight doesn’t have to technically go the full 12 rounds for bettors to win on the Over.

In Horn’s last 10 fights, 6 of them went over 9.5 rounds with 3 going the distance. In Mundine’s last 10 fights, 7 of them went over 9.5 rounds with 6 of them going the distance. Combined, these two men have 13 of their last 20 fights go over 9.5 rounds.

The smart money here is on the Over (-140). This means wagering $140 dollars to win $100.

Boxing Bet: Over 9.5 Rounds (-140)

Final Thoughts on the River City Rumble

Just because this fight takes place in Australia, and is between two Australians, doesn’t mean the rest of the world can’t enjoy an intriguing matchup. Will Horn take the torch from Mundine or will the cagey veteran claim one more victory and go down as one of the country’s all-time boxing heroes?

Although I would like to see Mundine win, I believe that Horn will win this fight. The two fighters appear to be passing each other in their careers. Horn is on the rise, while Mundine is on the decline.

Avoid the moneylines here because Horn at -538 is not worth risking $538 dollars to win $100 dollars. Mundine’s +433 is worthy of a flier if you like taking risks.

A wager of $100 could net you $433. With that in mind, the smart bet here is on the Over 9.5 Rounds (-140).

Winner: Jeff Horn

Boxing Bet: Over 9.5 Rounds (-140)
